Mayr Melnhof Packaging Romania: The regional leader for folding cartons manufacturing

The Romanian subsidiary of Mayr Melnhof Packaging group was established in Romania 18 years ago, as a result of group strategy to expand its operations in Central Eastern Europe.

MM Packaging is Europe’s largest manufacturer of folding cartons with a growing presence outside of Europe. At 38 locations more than 702,000 tons of carton board are converted into folding cartons per annum, with the majority of the manufactured products being sold to multinational customers in the branded goods industry. A wide product range, innovation, and increase of efficiency are the key factors for the successful development of the Division. The MM-Group has about 10,000 employees and generates consolidated sales of approximately EUR 2 billion. Since 1994 Mayr Melnhof has been listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange.

The Romanian Mayr Melnhof Packaging Company quickly became the local industry leader for solid board folding box supply on the market. In the last 10 years MM Packaging managed to develop into a regional supplier for all top global and local FMCG producers.

MM Packaging Romania was founded as a Greenfield investment in Ploiesti, a heavy industrialized area close to Bucharest, the capital city. Most of the top FMCG producers have established their local manufacturing facilities in the aforementioned city.

Recently, MMP Romania completed a multi-million Euro investment program, targeted to prepare the company for the next long-term strategic development phase. This proves once again the success of the initial development strategy in Romania and in the region, but also the strong group commitment to invest both in technology and future production capacity availability for folding carton market.

Additionally, MMP Romania further expanded its expertise from its initial core competencies of standard solid board folding box offset printing into the micro-flute laminated offset corrugated box segment, mainly driven by market development and customer demands.

Since the beginning of our operations, MM Packaging Romania’s team has created a customer driven philosophy, which finally translated into expanding its technological capabilities according to the market’s and client’s needs.

With this philosophy in mind, the company applied a continuous investment program designed to develop its competencies ahead of the standard folding box packaging requirements.

Additional process expertise and technology were added every year, such as hot foil application, blister varnish, specific industrial segment application (tamper evidence, anti-counterfeit UV ink application, Braille embossing), window patching application, etc.

MMP Romania can proudly consider that currently can supply folding box packaging to almost any industry where solid board boxes are used: automotive, beverages, FMCG, home appliances, detergents, dairy products, confectionery, mailing packaging products, etc.

In the last 2 years, the company implemented a production capacity expansion program, investing both in space extension (production area) but also adding production capacity in all essential production departments (printing, die-cutting, gluing/finishing). According to customer demands, new investments are also undergoing in specific new technologies (digital personalization, smart–packaging solutions, individual tailor made applications).
